The fall festival Doylestown crowd waits for all year is back and as lively as ever.

Each September, families, friends, and visitors from across Bucks County flock to the famed Peddler’s Village for the beloved scarecrow festival doylestown.

The festive energy is contagious the moment you arrive.

Rows of more than 150 whimsical, creepy, and clever scarecrows practically demand a stroll through the Village pathways.

Handmade by talented locals and area groups, these unique creations reflect both tradition and playful imagination.

This year marks a turning point as many families, eager for fall traditions, come together after months of uncertainty in public events.

Kids can paint pumpkins, listen to live music under a canopy of autumn leaves, and get creative in the famous scarecrow-making workshop.

The workshop—always a highlight—lets children and adults build and dress their own scarecrows, with supplies waiting right on the Street Road Green.

Organizers recommend keeping an eye out for reservation details since these hands-on sessions tend to fill quickly.

Few local gatherings match the charm and community spirit of this event.

If you’re new to the area or searching for a reason to spend the whole afternoon, the peddler’s village events calendar is packed: shops stay open late and dining options multiply as new restaurants join familiar favorites.

Rain or shine, festival activities buzz until evening, blending seamlessly with the local shopping scene and seasonal treats at every turn.

This festival doesn’t just attract Doylestown locals—a steady flow of new residents and curious day-trippers share in the tradition, making it a touchstone for the broader Bucks County community.

In a post-pandemic year marked by revived events and fresh local businesses, the festival stands as a celebration of both resilience and small-town magic.

Admission and parking are free, promising a wallet-friendly escape for all ages seeking autumn inspiration and joy.

Let this weekend be the kickoff to your fall—scarecrows, pumpkins, music, and plenty of local flair, all in one unforgettable spot.

Been coming since I was a kid. My own kids come now. That is what a real fall tradition looks like.

The autumn leaves canopy they mention is real and it is gorgeous. Perfect backdrop for photos with the kids.

It really is a stunning setting, and September timing tends to hit that sweet spot when the foliage is just beginning to turn, perfect for those family photos you'll actually want to frame.

Free parking at an outdoor festival in this area is genuinely shocking to me. Pleasantly shocking.

We know, free admission AND free parking is a rare combination, and it's a big part of what makes this such a genuinely wallet-friendly fall escape for the whole family.

My neighbor made one of the scarecrows this year and she worked on it for weeks. So cool to see community people involved.

kim_87Which one is hers? I love knowing the stories behind them. It makes walking through and looking at them so much more fun.

Do they still have the apple cider donuts near the main entrance? That is the real reason I show up honestly.

    • J
      jenniferm_newtown· Aug 25, 3:03 AM

Marcus WebbYes! The cider donut stand was there when I went last Saturday. Got there around 10 and the line was already moving pretty fast. Totally worth it.

We love the dedication! The dining and seasonal treat options do multiply each year as new vendors join the lineup, so it's worth checking the Peddler's Village events calendar closer to the date for the full delicious picture.

Went last weekend and the lines for pumpkin painting were pretty long by 11am. Head out early if you can.

Elaine B.Good tip. We learned that the hard way a few years back. Now we try to get there right when it opens and it makes a huge difference.

The phrase small-town magic really does fit this place perfectly in the fall.

Whoever designs some of those creepy scarecrows has a real talent. Some of them are genuinely unsettling in the best way.

Those creepy creations are absolutely part of the charm, the fact that they're all handmade by local talent and area groups makes the unsettling ones even more impressive.

We drive up from Philadelphia every fall just for this. It is worth every minute of the drive.

The shops staying open late is the real win for me. Finally enough time to actually browse without rushing.

    • P
      patrice_bucks· Aug 24, 10:06 PM

nate_kSame here. I always felt rushed before and ended up skipping half the shops. The later hours make it feel way more relaxed.

      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Aug 25, 11:17 PM

Exactly why we made a point to highlight it, with shops staying open late, you can actually linger, browse, and discover something new without the usual afternoon rush working against you.

    Donna Albright· Aug 24, 12:48 AM

Street Road Green is always packed on the first weekend. Midweek visits are so much more relaxed.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Aug 25, 3:03 PM

That's a great local tip, the Street Road Green workshop area in particular can get busy fast on opening weekend, so a midweek visit is a smart way to soak it all in at a gentler pace.

Calling it a turning point feels a little dramatic but I get it. Just nice to have normal events back.

    • DK
      Dave Kowalski· Aug 25, 5:06 AM

Brian P.Honestly fair point. But after the last couple years of things getting cancelled last minute, I think people are just relieved. A little drama is earned at this point.

My mom made a scarecrow entry years ago and it won a ribbon. We still have photos of it somewhere!

  • KS
    Kevin Shaughnessy· Aug 23, 5:53 PM

Rain or shine they say, but last year we got soaked and half the activities were moved inside. Just be prepared.

  • CF
    Carla F.· Aug 23, 5:20 PM

Glad to see new restaurants joining the lineup. The food options were always a little thin in past years.

    • P
      PauletteFW· Aug 25, 2:16 PM

Carla F.There was a new Mexican place I spotted that looked really good. Did you get a chance to try anything new or did you stick with the usual spots?

  • T

The live music under the leaves is honestly one of the best parts. So peaceful and very fall.

The pumpkin painting always draws a huge crowd. Get there early if you want a good spot at the tables.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Aug 22, 4:11 PM

Wonderful advice, pumpkin painting is consistently one of the most popular activities for younger visitors, so an early arrival will definitely reward you with a prime spot at the tables.

Peddlers Village in fall is just unbeatable. The whole vibe changes completely in September.

  • GT
    Greg T.· Aug 22, 4:39 AM

150 scarecrows sounds like a lot until you actually walk through and realize you want to stop at every single one.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Aug 22, 7:15 PM

That's exactly the experience, 150 sounds like a number you'd breeze past, but the detail and personality in each handmade scarecrow turns a quick stroll into a full afternoon adventure.

  • LK
    Linda Kowalski· Aug 22, 4:07 AM

My daughter did the scarecrow workshop two years ago and still talks about it. Definitely book early.

Free parking and free admission? That is the best deal in the whole county right now.

    • S
      SuzanneP_Doylestown· Aug 22, 11:40 PM

BucksCountyDadRight? Especially with everything getting more expensive lately. We made a whole afternoon of it and spent nothing just walking around. Ended up buying some stuff from the shops but that was our choice.

  • TM
    Tracey M.· Aug 22, 12:19 AM

We go every single year and it never gets old. The scarecrows alone are worth the trip!

    • RD
      Rob Dunlap· Aug 22, 1:38 AM

Tracey M.We brought my parents for the first time last year and now they want to go back every fall. The scarecrows were what sold them on it.
