This September, one of Doylestown’s most cherished end-of-summer rituals is making a splashy return—with the Fanny Chapman Pool opening its gates for a special dog swim event known locally as Fido Float.

This playful twist on traditional Doylestown pool events shines a spotlight on community spirit, as furry companions get their day in the sun and water.

Owners and dogs alike look forward all year to this once-a-season transformation.

Splitting the day by dog size adds just the right touch of order—and plenty of excitement.

Large breeds have the chance to cannonball and paddle during two back-to-back sessions, while pint-sized pups will reign over the toddler pool, creating a fun, safe space for every canine personality.

Recent reports show that this event draws dogs from all over Doylestown and nearby neighborhoods, building on a growing trend of dog-friendly activities in the area.

Pre-registration has become more important than ever as past years have filled to capacity quickly, reflecting the event’s growing popularity among local families and pet lovers.

On event day, expect to see wagging tails, enthusiastic swimmers, and a few dogs who would rather socialize on the sidelines—all under the watchful eyes of friendly, supportive staff.

Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic will be onsite, offering helpful tips and peace of mind for participants who may have questions about their pet’s safety or health during the swim.

The vibe is pure joy, with neighbors connecting over splashes, smiles, and the unmistakable sound of dogs living their best lives.

There’s always a tinge of bittersweet nostalgia as locals say goodbye to summer, but there’s no doubt this Doylestown dog event fills the day with laughter and a sense of community that lingers long after the last paw leaves the water.

Really nice to see local events like this keeping the community connected. Doylestown does this kind of thing well.

My two labs have been coming to this for three years running. They start getting antsy in August like they somehow know it's coming.

Maggie_OBThree years is impressive. Do they still get just as excited once they actually get there or do they play it cool by now?

    JimB_Bucks· Sep 11, 8:31 PM

I love dogs as much as anyone but I do wonder if the pool gets a serious cleaning after. Just a thought.

The staff at Fanny Chapman always do such a great job keeping things running smoothly. Huge shoutout to them for pulling this off every year.

A well-deserved shoutout, the friendly, supportive staff are a huge part of what makes Fido Float such a warm and well-run community event year after year.

Claire McAndrewAgreed, they manage a lot of moving parts with that event and it always seems to go smoothly. Not easy wrangling that many excited dogs in one place.

My neighbor went last year and said it was packed. Need to register early this time for sure.

Your neighbor is absolutely right, past years have filled to capacity quickly, so getting your registration in early is definitely the move this time around.

Brought my rescue pup for the first time last year and she came out of her shell so much around all the other dogs. Magical honestly.

Would love to see them add a second event date. It fills up so fast and a lot of people get shut out every year.

This is genuinely one of those small town things that makes living here feel special. Love that Fanny Chapman does this.

That sense of community is exactly what makes Fido Float so special, it's one of those events where the laughter and connections linger long after the last paw leaves the water.

My dog refuses to swim. He just stands at the edge and barks at all the other dogs. Still comes home completely worn out somehow.

    • T
      Todd_Hartley· Sep 11, 3:09 AM

Arthur B.Ha this is my guy exactly. He has never once gone in the water but acts completely exhausted after. I think the chaos just does it to them.

    • DP

Sideline barking is absolutely a valid participation strategy, and the fact that he comes home worn out anyway tells you everything about the energy this event generates!

Registered the second sign ups opened. Not taking any chances this year after missing out last September.

Anyone know if they allow photos and video? I want to capture my shepherd's first swim for the family.

      LisaFromPipersville· Sep 10, 5:33 AM

Trina LopezI took tons of photos and short videos last year and nobody said anything. Just be mindful of other people's dogs being in your shots, some owners get a little particular about that.

I always feel a little sad when this comes around because it means summer is really over. But the event itself is a blast so I can't complain too much.

You've captured the bittersweet spirit of the day perfectly, as we noted, there's always that tinge of nostalgia, but it's hard to stay wistful when you're surrounded by splashing dogs and smiling neighbors!

    leah_s87· Sep 8, 8:59 AM

This is the only event my dog actually gets excited for. She starts going nuts the second we pull into the parking lot.

Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic being there is a great touch. Smart to have a vet on hand for an event like this.

  • GM
    Gretchen M.· Sep 8, 8:43 AM

I appreciate that they split it by size. Last time we went before they did that it was a little chaotic with big and small dogs together.

    • J
      JoshPa19· Sep 9, 2:02 AM

Gretchen M.Yeah I heard stories about before the size split. My friend said her little beagle got completely overwhelmed by the big dogs. The change was a long time coming honestly.

  • N
    NickT_PA· Sep 8, 7:31 AM

Went once and my lab tried to drag me into the pool with him. Best day ever honestly.

The toddler pool section for small dogs is genius. My chihuahua would get steamrolled otherwise.

Grew up in Doylestown and this is honestly one of my favorite things the borough does all year. Brings everyone together.

carlo_mThat is the thing about smaller boroughs, they still do stuff like this and it actually means something. Glad you still get to enjoy it even if you do not live there anymore.

My husband thinks this is silly but every year he ends up laughing the whole time once we get there. Dogs in pools are just pure happiness.

Having the vet clinic on site is a really smart idea. My dog has anxiety around water so it's nice knowing help is there if needed.

    • R
      Renee_F· Sep 9, 9:55 AM

DaveW_DoylestownSame with my goldendoodle. Just knowing the clinic is there makes me way more relaxed about the whole thing. She gets overstimulated easily and it used to stress me out bringing her to busy events.

Pre registration fills up SO fast. I missed it two years ago because I waited too long. Do not make that mistake people.

    • P
      Pete_Doylestown· Sep 9, 11:11 PM

Sandra K.Seriously, I made that mistake last year. Checked the registration page and it was already closed. This year I have a reminder set for the day they open it up.

My little beagle is more of a sideline socializer but she loves being around all the other dogs. Worth every penny just for that.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Sep 8, 9:27 PM

That's the beauty of splitting the day by size and having spaces for every personality, even the socializers get their moment to shine, and it sounds like your beagle has it all figured out!

    Mike Dalton· Sep 8, 2:46 AM

Does anyone know what time the large dog sessions start? The article doesn't say and I want to make sure we get there early.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Sep 9, 2:12 PM

We don't have the specific session times to share here, but your best bet is to check directly with Fanny Chapman Pool when you register, since pre-registration is more important than ever this year, that's a great time to ask!

    Patty R.· Sep 8, 1:35 AM

Took my golden retriever last year and she absolutely lost her mind in the best way. Cannot wait to register again this year.
