Heat Related Emergencies at Graduation Ceremonies in Doylestown PA |
Graduation ceremony safety and identifying heat exhaustion symptoms |

During Thursday's high school graduation ceremonies in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, numerous attendees experienced heat-related emergencies as temperatures soared into the mid to upper 80s.
The Central Bucks School District held simultaneous ceremonies at CB South, East, and West at 12:30 p.m., adjusting schedules due to anticipated thunderstorms. In response to the heat, the district provided multiple water stations, distributed water bottles to graduates, set up nurse stations, and had EMS personnel on-site.
Despite these precautions, emergency responders reported an increase in heat-related issues about an hour into the ceremonies. At CB South, medical personnel assessed approximately 19 individuals, transporting five to local hospitals. At CB West, several attendees suffered from heat exhaustion, with multiple patients treated on-site or transported for further care.
Heat exhaustion symptoms include heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, or vomiting. To prevent such incidents, it's crucial to stay hydrated, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat.
The district expressed gratitude to nurses, EMS personnel, local first responders, and staff members for their prompt and professional response to those needing medical attention. |
