Second Sunday is such a simple idea but it really does bring people in who would not normally go.
Went with a group of neighbors and we ended up staying way longer than planned. Time flies in there.
Frank DibelloThat happens to us every single time. We say an hour and then suddenly it is two and a half hours later.
The Michener is just a beautiful building too. Worth going in just to see the space itself.
Carole WhitmanCompletely agree. That courtyard space especially. I have brought out of town guests just to see the building and they are always impressed.
My kids actually ask to go which says a lot. They are not usually into museums at all.
Free is great but honestly even the regular admission price is pretty reasonable for what you get.
Hope they have the big landscape paintings up still. Those are my favorite in the whole museum.
Brought my dad last month. He is not usually an art person but he really enjoyed it.
That's exactly the low-pressure atmosphere Free Second Sunday is designed to create, we're so glad it won over an unlikely art enthusiast!
This is such a good nudge. I keep meaning to go and never do. This Sunday for real.
Patty NovakHa, I said the same thing last month. Actually went though and was glad I did. Hope you make it this time!
Not sure I get all the art but the sculpture garden is really something. Very calming.
You don't need to 'get' every piece to be moved by it, that peaceful feeling in the sculpture garden is a completely valid and wonderful way to connect with art!
Ed FarrowSame here honestly. I can not always explain what I am looking at inside but the sculpture garden just feels peaceful. Worth the trip on its own.
Been a member for two years but still love that they open it up for free. Community vibes.
Does anyone know if they have strollers available? Going with my toddler for the first time.
Kim_87I brought my toddler last year and did not see any loaner strollers but there was plenty of room for ours. I would call ahead just to be sure though.
The Pennsylvania Impressionists collection is seriously underrated. More people should see it.
We couldn't agree more, the Pennsylvania Impressionists collection is a genuine treasure, and events like Free Second Sunday are exactly how we hope to introduce more people to it.
Came for the Arts Festival last September and ducked into the Michener too. What a great combo.
The pairing of the Arts Festival and Free Second Sunday in September is truly special, this year it's shaping up to make the whole area buzz with creative energy all over again!
Wish more museums did something like this. Admission fees add up fast for a family.
That's precisely the spirit behind the program, making high-quality art accessible to everyone, families included, without admission fees adding up.
Great way to spend a morning without spending anything. Love that they do this.
Anne BurgessRight? Free AND something actually worth doing. Not easy to find both at the same time.
The rotating exhibitions keep it fresh. Saw something completely different last time compared to the visit before.
That's one of our favorite things about the Michener, the rotating exhibitions ensure there's always something new to discover alongside the permanent collection.
After the museum we always walk down Main Street for lunch. Makes for a really nice Sunday.
Jen_NewtownSame! We usually end up at that little cafe on State Street after. Turns a free morning into a whole outing.
That Main Street stroll after a visit is the perfect way to round out the day, we love that the museum and Doylestown's charming downtown complement each other so naturally!
Honestly had no idea this was free. Going to check it out this weekend.
My granddaughter asks to go every second Sunday now. She loves the art stuff for kids.
Susan CallowayThat is so sweet. My kids were the same way at that age. Those early trips really do stick with them.
Parking can get a little tricky when it's busy. Get there early if you can.
Went for the first time on a Second Sunday last year and now I go every month. Great tradition.
The sculpture garden alone is worth the trip. So peaceful out there.
The sculpture garden really is a hidden gem, and we love that visitors can enjoy it at their own pace without any admission barrier.
Free admission AND the Doylestown Arts Festival the same weekend? Perfect day out.
Been coming to the Michener for years. The Pennsylvania Impressionists gallery never gets old.
Took my kids last month and they loved it. Definitely going back this Sunday!
