📅 Wednesday, October 14 (repeats Thursday, Oct 15)

⏰ 7 p.m.

📍 Doylestown Historical Society, 56 S. Main St.

💲 $20. Limited to 15 people per tour

Every old town has its stories. Doylestown has more than most.

On Wednesday night, the Doylestown Historical Society leads "History with Mystery," a walking tour of downtown spots that are said to be haunted.

Guides share the stories that have been passed down over the years, along with the real history behind each building. So even if you don't believe a word of the ghost part, you'll walk away knowing a lot more about the street you park on.

The tour starts and ends at the Historical Society's park on South Main Street, with light refreshments at the end.

Each tour is capped at 15 people, so book early. There's a second date on Thursday, Oct 15, if Wednesday fills up.

Wear comfortable shoes, bring a light jacket for after dark, and maybe a friend to grab onto.

Went two years ago and still talk about the story they told about one of the old inns. Cannot remember which one but it stuck with me.

  • BW
    Brendan Walsh· Oct 11, 4:11 PM

Does anyone know if they go past the Mercer Museum area or just stick to Main St?

  • M
    Mike_DoylestownDad· Oct 11, 4:05 PM

Great thing to do instead of just another dinner out. Doylestown needs more events like this honestly

  • EC
    Ellen Cho· Oct 10, 3:28 PM

The part about real history behind each building is what makes this worth it. Not just a spooky gimmick.

  • M
    mike_pa_guy· Oct 10, 12:50 AM

My wife wants to do this. I am pretending I am scared so she has someone to hold onto.

    • D
      donna_bucks· Oct 10, 3:29 AM

mike_pa_guyHa! Smart strategy. My husband pulled the same move at a haunted house last year. Worked perfectly.

    Cara Whitfield· Oct 9, 8:38 PM

Bring layers, not just a light jacket. Last year it dropped fast after 8pm and I was freezing by the end

  • F
    first_timer_here· Oct 9, 7:49 PM

Never done one of these before. Is it more scary or more historical? Trying to figure out if I should bring my nervous friend

  • TY
    Theresa Yablonski· Oct 9, 6:07 PM

Wish they added a third date. Two nights at 15 people each is not a lot of spots for a whole town.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Oct 11, 9:15 AM

It's a fair point, 30 total spots go fast for a town with this much to explore, so keep an eye out in case the Historical Society adds anything.

    Tony Pellegrino· Oct 9, 5:22 PM

The guides are really knowledgeable. Our guide last year knew so much local history it felt like a real history lesson not just a gimmick

  • A
    Angela_Bucks· Oct 9, 4:58 PM

Did it with my book club last year and we talked about it for weeks after. Perfect group activity honestly

  • JH
    Jim Hollis· Oct 9, 4:26 PM

56 S Main is easy to find but parking on that block can be tight on a weeknight. Get there a few minutes early just in case

  • JB

The guides are really good. They know their stuff and keep the group moving at a nice pace.

Joe BrennanGood to hear. Some of these tours drag or the guide just reads off a card. Sounds like these folks actually know the material.

  • NB
    Nora B.· Oct 9, 1:30 PM

Wish they did more dates. October only gives you so many weekends and this fills up so fast every single year

  • C
    creeped_out_carl· Oct 9, 1:23 PM

I went two years ago and one of the stops genuinely had me looking over my shoulder the rest of the night. Won't say which one, don't want to spoil it

  • M

Not sure I believe in ghosts but October in Doylestown at night is genuinely creepy in the best way.

There really is something about Doylestown after dark in October, the atmosphere does half the work before the guides even say a word.

    • P
      PatriciaM_Doylestown· Oct 9, 2:58 AM

Barry T.Right? I drive past it all the time and barely notice it. Went in once for an exhibit and it's actually a really nice space inside.

It's a lovely spot to gather, and the light refreshments waiting at the end give everyone a nice reason to linger and swap reactions from the tour.

  • DR

Took my teenage kids last year and they actually put their phones down for the whole tour. That alone was worth $20.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Oct 9, 1:00 PM

Phones down for a full walking tour, honestly that might be the most impressive ghost story of all, and a great endorsement for the $20.

  • N

Any parking near South Main at 7pm on a weeknight? That area can get tight.

    • K
      Kevin_SouthMain· Oct 9, 2:32 PM

NickV_BucksCountyThere's usually spots on the side streets a block or two over. Pine Street tends to have room on weeknights in my experience.

  • JF
    Jill Ferreira· Oct 8, 8:48 PM

Can kids go on this? My 10 year old is obsessed with anything spooky and would absolutely love it but I don't want it to be too intense

20 bucks is totally reasonable for two hours of entertainment on a fall evening.

  • DS
    Dave S.· Oct 8, 5:11 PM

Good reminder that Doylestown has a ton of history that most people just drive past without thinking about. Cool that they do this

  • LK

South Main is such a beautiful block at night. Even without the ghost angle it would be worth it just to see it all lit up

  • RZ

  • S

Ghost tours are fun but I always roll my eyes a little at the haunted label. Still a good excuse to walk around downtown at night

    • DP

Learned the hard way, apparently! Cobblestones and heels are never a good combination, the comfortable shoes reminder is in there for good reason.

  • T

Not a ghost believer but the actual history part is what gets me. This town has some stories.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Oct 7, 6:00 AM

That's exactly why the guides pair the ghost lore with the real history, you leave with something whether or not you believe in things that go bump in the night.

    • R
      RandyP_Bucks· Oct 7, 6:25 AM

tommyb_bucksSame. I grew up here and still learned things the last time I did one of these tours. The history alone is worth the twenty bucks.

  • CS

Went Thursday last year and it sold out fast. Book early is not a joke.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Oct 7, 8:07 PM

Appreciate you seconding that warning, with only 15 spots per night, both dates can disappear quickly, so booking early is genuinely the move.

  • J

    • M

Glad you had a great time, and yes, this town's older buildings have accumulated quite a few layers of story over the years!
