📅 Saturday, October 3

⏰ Noon – 6 p.m.

📍 Porches and front yards across Doylestown Borough

💲 Free (tip the musicians)

Last October, Doylestown tried something new.

Front porches became stages, sidewalks became dance floors, and a lot of us wandered the Borough on a Saturday afternoon following the sound of a guitar around the corner.

It worked.

Porchfest is back this Saturday, and it has doubled: 87 performances on 28 porches, up from 42 on 14 last year.

Here's how to make the most of it.

📱 Do this before you leave the house

New this year is the Porch Pilot Navigator, a free web app with the full schedule, a map of every porch, and bios for every act.

You can favorite sets and get a heads-up before they start.

There's nothing to download and no login. Open it in your phone's browser, tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen."

Prefer paper? Printed maps and schedules will be on host porches Saturday.

👉 doylestown-porch-fest.base44.app

🎸 How to actually do it

Most sets run 45 minutes, staggered across town.

A few run long; the Mark Feingold Jazz Group plays two full hours at 330 W Oakland Ave.

Music starts at noon and the last sets begin at 4:30, so don't show up at 5 expecting a full afternoon.

Pick two or three acts you really want to hear and build around them. Then let the rest happen.

The best moments are often the band you stumble on between your picks.

The lineup runs from jazz and blues to classic rock, folk, country and punk. Wear comfortable shoes.

🎯 5 Porches Not to Miss

🎷 Stay Put for Jazz and Soul

📍 Porch 28 · 441 E Court St (by Fonthill Park)

⏰ Gilgore Jazz Fusion Project, 12:00–1:30 · Malcolm Clark Jazz, 1:45–2:30 · Mud Road Poets, 2:45–3:30 · The Dave Woodard Band, 4:00–5:00

If you only want one spot, make it this one.

Four acts back to back, closing with a 70s-and-80s soul band. Bring a chair and settle in.

🏘️ One Street, Four Porches

📍 Porches 19–22 · 91, 163, 185 and 208 E Ashland St

⏰ Music from noon to about 4:30

Four porches within a short stroll of each other, so the music barely stops.

Catch Highfield at noon, Black Cat Habitat at 1:30, New Wave Nights at 3:00, or Cathie C at 3:45.

With kids? Eco-Man, a children's entertainer, plays 163 E Ashland at 12:45, followed by Hammerstein & Friends with musical theatre at 2:15.

🏛️ Music at the Historical Society

📍 Porch 17 · 56 S Main St, Doylestown Historical Society

⏰ Too Many Cooks, 1:00–1:45 · The Back Porch Jugband, 2:30–3:15 · No Filler, 4:00–4:45

One of this year's new stops, right downtown. Pair it with lunch nearby.

🪕 The Bluegrass Set

📍 Porch 23 · 118 E Oakland Ave

⏰ Lost Cricket String Band, 3:00–3:45

The only bluegrass on the schedule. Plan your 3:00 around it.

🤘 Close Out the Day Loud

📍 Porch 01 · 181 E Court St, Freeman Hall

⏰ Don Julio, 12:00 · Da People, 1:30 · School of Rock Doylestown, 3:00 · BARBS, 4:30–5:15

The rock porch. BARBS has the day's last start time, so end your afternoon here.

🅿️ Where to park

Saturday is a regular meter day in the Borough.

Downtown meters run 9 to 5 at $1.75 an hour with a 3-hour limit. Meters are free after 5.

The County garage at Broad & Union is $1 an hour with no time limit. It's the easiest pick if you're staying all afternoon.

Residential streets have free parking, but read the signs. Some blocks are permit-only, and the fine is $50.

If you live in town, walk.

🪑 What to bring

A lawn chair or blanket. Seating on porches is limited.

Cash for tips. The musicians are volunteering their afternoon.

Your dog, if they like crowds. Organizers have invited four-legged friends.

A bathroom plan. Host homes aren't open for restrooms, so plan stops at local restaurants and cafés.

🚦 Be a good neighbor

No streets are closed, so cars will still be coming through.

Stay on the sidewalk at every porch, even when the crowd gets deep, and keep an eye on little ones near the curb.

No open containers are allowed.

And remember these are people's homes: enjoy the lawn and the music, and leave the porch for the band.

☔ Rain or Shine

Porchfest happens rain or shine, and there's no rain date.

If the forecast looks iffy, bring an umbrella or a rain jacket along with your chair.

Check the Porch Pilot app and @doylestownporchfest on Facebook and Instagram Saturday morning for any last-minute changes.

💛 Why this matters

Porchfest is run by five local volunteers, with dozens of neighbors opening up their porches to make it happen.

Donations pay for the maps, signs and banners.

If you have a great afternoon, you can give toward next year at givebutter.com/porchfest26.

Take photos, tag @doylestownporchfest, and go find your next porch.

The bathroom situation is always the thing nobody thinks about until it's too late. Good to mention it ahead of time.

  • DF
    Donna Ferreira· Oct 3, 4:52 PM

First time going this year. The tip about picking two or three anchors and letting the rest happen is solid advice for any street festival. Less planning, more fun.

  • S
    sam_w· Oct 2, 8:40 PM

Printed maps at the host porches is a nice backup for people who do not want to stare at their phone all afternoon. Not everyone needs an app.

  • MH
    Megan Holt· Oct 2, 2:41 AM

Hammerstein and Friends doing musical theatre at 2:15 on E Ashland is a bold choice and I mean that in a good way. That is a fun surprise for people just wandering through.

  • AP
    Al Pemberton· Oct 2, 12:23 AM

Noon to 4:30 for last sets is a tighter window than I expected. Good tip in here about not showing up at 5 thinking you will catch a full show.

  • JS
    Joanne Stern· Oct 1, 11:12 PM

The no open containers rule is going to surprise some people. Worth knowing before you crack something walking between porches.

  • C
    chris_b· Sep 30, 1:29 AM

No streets closed means people need to actually stay on the sidewalk. Last year some folks were just standing in the road near the jazz porch and it was a little sketchy.

  • MG
    Mary Ellen G.· Sep 29, 10:47 PM

Porch 28 on E Court by Fonthill Park sounds like the spot. Four acts back to back with a soul band closing it out, I am bringing a blanket and not moving.

  • R
    rob_doylestown· Sep 29, 9:27 PM

School of Rock kids at Freeman Hall at 3 is always a highlight. Those kids practice all year for stuff like this. Go cheer them on.

Doylestown really does community events well. This town keeps finding new ways to bring people together.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Oct 1, 4:42 AM

Credit really goes to the five volunteers who organize this and the dozens of neighbors who open their porches, the Borough just keeps saying yes to good ideas.

    Tim Wolfe· Sep 29, 6:14 PM

Da People at 1:30 at Freeman Hall sounds really good. Anyone know what kind of music they play?

  • SD
    Steph D.· Sep 29, 3:32 PM

Bringing the dog for sure. He loves people and this seems like the perfect afternoon for him.

    • T
      TomaszK_Bucks· Sep 29, 5:15 PM

Steph D.Same plan here. Just make sure he's okay with the noise from the louder porches. My dog panicked a little at a street festival last summer when a band kicked in unexpectedly.

  • R
    rob_k· Sep 29, 2:37 PM

87 performances is wild. Last year felt manageable. This might actually be overwhelming to navigate.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Sep 30, 4:25 PM

That's exactly why we'd suggest the strategy in the piece: pick two or three anchors, build loosely around them, and let the rest happen, 87 performances gives you options, not obligations.

  • TC
    Trish Callahan· Sep 29, 1:12 PM

My dog is going to lose his mind in the best way possible. Dogs invited is maybe the detail I am most excited about.

  • P
    PatriciaM_76· Sep 29, 2:54 AM

Brought my lawn chair last year and it was the best decision. Do not skip that tip.

    • N
      NorbertQ· Sep 30, 1:31 AM

PatriciaM_76Adding a small blanket too if you have one. Last year I got there early at one porch and just sat on the grass. Worked great and kept my hands free for the tip jar.

  • CF
    Colin Farr· Sep 29, 1:26 AM

New Wave Nights at 3pm on Ashland has my attention. Hope they play some actual 80s stuff and not just the obvious hits.

    • A
      Alicia_NW· Sep 30, 12:54 AM

Colin FarrI saw them at a small venue in Lambertville a while back and they did a solid mix. Not just Depeche Mode and The Cure, which was a nice surprise. Think you'll be happy.

  • KP
    Kevin Park· Sep 29, 12:36 AM

Bring a chair. Seriously. I learned last year that standing for three hours on sidewalk concrete is rough. Folding camp chair changed everything.

  • N
    NorthBucks_Nancy· Sep 28, 8:42 PM

The E Ashland Street cluster with four porches close together is genius. You barely have to move.

  • MT
    Melissa T.· Sep 28, 8:09 PM

Tip your musicians people. They are giving up their whole Saturday for free. Bring cash.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Sep 29, 3:47 PM

Couldn't agree more, cash tips are the real admission price for a free afternoon of live music, and it means a lot to the musicians who are giving up their Saturday.

    • G
      Greg_Fonthill· Sep 30, 6:00 AM

Melissa T.Seriously. Five bucks in the tip jar goes a long way when you just spent a free afternoon listening to live music. No excuse not to.

  • DO
    Dave Ostrowski· Sep 28, 8:05 PM

Going solo this year and just planning to wander. Best way to do it honestly. You find the best stuff by accident.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Sep 30, 4:25 AM

Honestly, some of the best Porchfest moments come exactly that way, the article's own advice is to pick a few anchors and then let the rest happen, because the band you stumble on is often the one you remember.

  • AW
    Amanda W.· Sep 28, 7:13 PM

New Wave Nights at 3 on E Ashland is on my list. Fingers crossed the weather cooperates because standing in the rain listening to synth pop sounds less fun.

  • FR
    Frank Russo· Sep 28, 4:25 PM

Genuinely hope people actually tip. Musicians giving up a Saturday afternoon for free deserve more than just applause.

  • J
    jillian_bc· Sep 28, 3:33 PM

The Back Porch Jugband at the Historical Society is such a perfect pairing. Love that they picked that location.

  • KR
    Kathy R.· Sep 28, 2:58 PM

Rain or shine is the right call. Last year the weather was perfect but you cannot plan around October in Bucks County.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Sep 29, 6:58 AM

Exactly right, the porches themselves offer some cover, but an umbrella is genuinely worth tossing in your bag, and the Porch Pilot app will have any last-minute updates Saturday morning if things shift.

  • DH
    Debra Holloway· Sep 28, 2:19 PM

I live two blocks from E Ashland and I did not even know four porches were lined up on my own street. Going to walk out my door at noon and just stay all day.

  • G
    gabe_m87· Sep 28, 1:09 PM

Mark Feingold Jazz Group playing two full hours is impressive. Most sets are 45 minutes so that is a real commitment from that group.

  • SA
    Susan Altman· Sep 28, 4:22 AM

The Historical Society porch is a great addition. Right downtown, easy to combine with lunch at one of the spots on Main. Smart pick for families with strollers.

  • JK
    Jim K.· Sep 28, 3:25 AM

I got a $50 permit parking ticket last year because I missed the sign. Read every sign before you walk away from your car. The article is right about that.

  • LY
    Lisa Yuen· Sep 28, 3:20 AM

Honest question, where are people supposed to use the bathroom between noon and 5? Popping into restaurants every hour feels awkward if you are not buying anything.

  • NF
    Nate Forsberg· Sep 28, 1:35 AM

BARBS closing out Freeman Hall at 4:30 is going to be a scene. That is a great way to end the day.

    Rachel B.· Sep 27, 10:49 PM

My daughter is obsessed with the Eco-Man thing at 163 E Ashland. She has been asking about it all week. Good to see something for the little kids in the mix.

  • MC
    Mike Castellano· Sep 27, 10:19 PM

Gonna park at the Broad and Union garage and just walk everywhere. Dollar an hour with no time limit is the move for an all-afternoon thing like this.

  • P
    patty_d· Sep 27, 9:38 PM

The Porch Pilot app is actually really nice. Just added a bunch of favorites. Way better than trying to fold that paper map while walking.

  • TH
    Todd Hargrove· Sep 27, 9:04 PM

87 performances is insane. They doubled it in one year. Hope the logistics hold up because 42 acts last year already felt a little chaotic near E Court St.

  • JM
    Jenny M.· Sep 27, 8:46 PM

This is exactly what Doylestown needed. Last year was so fun, my husband and I just wandered around for three hours and stumbled onto a bluegrass band we had never heard of. Cannot wait for Saturday.

School of Rock Doylestown at Freeman Hall! Those kids always bring it. My nephew performed with them last spring.

    • S

That's exactly what the Porch Pilot Navigator was built for, no login, no download, just a map in your pocket so you can spend the afternoon listening instead of guessing which block to try next.

The no open containers rule makes sense. These are people's neighborhoods. Be respectful people.

Porch 28 on E Court St sounds like the spot to just plant yourself for the afternoon. Four acts back to back is great.

  • R
    RandyB_PA· Sep 27, 6:48 AM

Wish they would close at least one or two streets. A little nervous about crowds spilling near traffic with kids around.

    • J
      Jen_Dtown· Sep 27, 9:35 AM

RandyB_PAI get it, but honestly last year it felt pretty manageable. The sidewalks on most of those streets are wide enough. Just keep the kids close and you should be fine.

  • CH
    Carol Hennessy· Sep 27, 6:10 AM

The Porch Pilot app is such a smart idea. Last year I had no idea what was happening where until I just started walking.

Lost Cricket String Band is the only bluegrass act? I'll be at porch 23 at 3pm sharp.

    • R
      Rachel_PB· Sep 28, 11:00 AM

mike_dtownRight? I was hoping for at least two or three bluegrass acts but I'll take it. That band is really good live so at least they saved the best for the only slot.

    • DP
      Doylestown PulseAuthor· Sep 27, 2:45 PM

BARBS getting the day's last start time at 4:30 was a deliberate choice, hard to think of a better way to close out a Saturday afternoon than with the rock porch at full energy.

  • LS
    Lori S.· Sep 27, 3:17 AM

My kids are going to love Eco-Man at 163 E Ashland. Did not know there was stuff for children this year!

    • DP

Eco-Man at 12:45 followed by Hammerstein & Friends at 2:15 makes 163 E Ashland a genuine destination for families, E Ashland Street as a whole is one of the most kid-friendly stretches on the map this year.

  • B

Went last year and it was such a good time. Cannot believe they doubled the number of porches already!
