Trivia Question❓

Doylestown, PA sits at the heart of Bucks County, which became famous in the early 20th century for attracting a vibrant artists' colony — but which beloved American author, known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novels about the American frontier and pioneer life, once called Bucks County home and helped put the region on the literary map?

The Stover-Myers Mill on Dark Hollow Road in Pipersville holds its last milling day of 2026 on Sunday, Oct. 25, from noon to 4 p.m.

Visitors can watch the gears spin and the millstone grind corn, and admission is free.

The mill dates to 1784, when Jacob Stover bought the property, and was rebuilt by Christian M. Myers in 1885.

It ground flour until 1920 and ran as a feed mill until 1955.

Bucks County bought it in 1967, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

There were only three milling days this year, so Sunday is the last chance in 2026 to see it at work.

With leaves approaching peak and the Cabin Run Covered Bridge nearby, the drive along the Tohickon is part of the pleasure.

Doylestown Insider: The Mercer Mile Is Free to Walk Anytime

Most locals know about the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle as ticketed attractions, but fewer realize that the exterior grounds and walking path connecting the two — often called the Mercer Mile — are open to the public at no charge. You can stroll past the castle walls, take in the wild architectural drama of Henry Mercer's concrete creations, and enjoy the surrounding landscape without buying a single ticket. It makes for an unusual and genuinely striking afternoon walk that most Doylestown residents have never thought to take on its own terms, independent of a museum visit.

Next time you have a spare hour, park on Pine Street and simply walk it. You'll feel like you've discovered a hidden corner of Europe tucked inside Bucks County.
