Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event Scheduled for Saturday in Perkasie

Bucks County residents encouraged to safely dispose of hazardous materials at upcoming collection event

Bucks County is set to host its second Household Hazardous Waste Collection event of the year on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Upper Bucks County Technical School, located at 3115 Ridge Road in Perkasie.

The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rain or shine, and is free for residents. No registration is required.

Residents can bring up to 25 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous materials for safe disposal. Acceptable items include pesticides, oil-based paints, automotive products like gasoline and motor oil, pool chemicals, degreasers, mercury thermostats, fluorescent tubes, fire extinguishers, mini-propane tanks (2 pounds or less), lead-acid batteries (car, marine, motorcycle, and truck), and rechargeable, lithium, or button-type household batteries.

It's important to note that certain items will not be accepted at the event. Unacceptable materials include electronics, appliances, asbestos, medical waste, explosives or ammunition, radioactive and unidentified waste, large gas cylinders, tires, and smoke detectors. Additionally, water-based latex paint and alkaline batteries can be safely disposed of in regular trash and will not be accepted at the collection.

To ensure safe transportation of hazardous waste to the collection site, residents are advised to keep all products in their original containers with labels intact and lids tightly secured. Materials should be placed securely in a box to prevent spilling, and any leaking containers should be wrapped in newspaper and placed in a plastic container for transport. It's crucial not to mix materials and to avoid leaving hazardous materials in a vehicle or other hot, unventilated areas for prolonged periods. Smoking near any chemicals is strictly prohibited.

Proper disposal of household hazardous waste is essential to protect both people and the environment. Items containing toxic chemicals, such as pesticides, oil-based paints, solvents, cleaning products, weed killers, and automotive batteries, can pose significant risks if improperly discarded. These materials should never be thrown into the trash, as they may harm sanitation workers or cause fires in collection vehicles. Pouring them into sinks or storm drains is also dangerous, as they can end up polluting the air, water, or soil.

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection events are sponsored by the Bucks County Commissioners and the Bucks County Planning Commission. These events are intended for the collection of residential household hazardous waste only and are not open to businesses, industries, or institutions.

For additional information, residents can contact the Bucks County Planning Commission via email at planningcommission@buckscounty.org or by phone at 215-345-3400.

For those unable to attend Saturday's event, additional collection events are scheduled throughout the year:

July 11: Bucks County Community College, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown.

August 8: Bensalem High School, 4319 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem.

October 24: Strayer Middle School, 1200 Ronald Reagan Drive, Quakertown.

These events are open to residents of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, as well as Philadelphia, regardless of the host county.
