Trunk or Treat Lights Up Peddler's Village Friday Night |
Decorated cars, shop-to-shop candy and a vote for the best trunk in Lahaska |

If you've got little ghosts and goblins in your life, Friday night at Peddler's Village is made for them.
Trunk or Treat in the Village runs Friday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Lahaska.
It's free.
Kids in costume can trick-or-treat along the Village's brick walkways and at participating shops.
The centerpiece is Trunk-or-Treat Lane, in the lot behind the Visitor & Event Center.
Between 15 and 25 cars, decorated by local families, businesses and community groups, line up with their trunks open and candy ready.
Think of it as a neighborhood block where every single house has gone all out.
Visitors vote for their favorites in three categories: Most Spooktacular Trunk, Best Family-Friendly Theme and Most Creative Design.
The winners take home prizes.
A few rules keep it safe and simple.
Only individually wrapped, store-bought treats are handed out, and there are no open flames or candles.
Costumes and decorations stay family-friendly, and children need to be supervised by a parent or guardian.
It's an especially easy option the night before Halloween, since it's still light out at 5 and the weather looks mild.
That makes it a nice pick for the youngest trick-or-treaters, or for grandparents who'd like a calmer outing than Saturday night in the neighborhood.
Peddler's Village is at Route 202 and Street Road in Lahaska, about 15 minutes from downtown Doylestown.
Bring a bag for the candy, and a light jacket for after sunset.
Then make a night of it with dinner at one of the Village restaurants. |

If the weather holds mild like they are saying that is going to be a really nice evening over there. Fingers crossed it does not rain.
My kids get so much candy on actual Halloween that it lasts until Christmas. Adding a trunk or treat the night before might actually be a mistake for my house.
Voting for favorites is a nice idea but also now my neighbor who decorates competitively is going to want to enter. Here we go.
Honestly, a competitive neighbor sounds like exactly the kind of person who could win Most Creative Design, maybe channel that energy into a trophy for the mantle!
The grandparent comment in here is so accurate. My mom wants to take my son but big neighborhood Halloween nights stress her out. This is exactly her speed.
robin_wSame with my dad. He loves seeing the costumes but big chaotic neighborhood nights are too much for him now. This kind of event is a perfect fit.
I grew up near Peddler's Village and it is genuinely one of the best spots around for events like this. They take care of the place.
That care really does show, especially at an event like this where the details, the voting categories, the safety rules, the layout, all feel thought through.
Dinner at one of the Village restaurants after sounds really nice actually. Make it a whole family night out.
Route 202 on a Friday evening could be rough getting there. Give yourself extra time if you are coming from New Hope or Doylestown.
Phil_Buckingham_TwpGood call. We left around 4:30 last time just to get ahead of it and that helped a lot. 202 near Street Road can back up fast on weekend evenings.
Route 202 on a Friday evening is going to be rough getting there. Leave extra time people.
My daughter won best family friendly theme two years ago with a Wizard of Oz setup. Still have the ribbon on the fridge.
The family friendly costume rule is genuinely appreciated. I do not need my 4 year old asking questions about scary decorations she is not ready for.
No open flames rule is smart. Some of those trunk setups people go crazy with fog machines and stuff, glad there are some guardrails.
25 cars worth of candy plus the shops are handing out treats too? These kids are going to need a bigger bag.
I have never been to Peddler's Village for anything other than the holidays. Might finally check it out for this.
It's a great introduction to the Village, and with shops open and restaurants right there, it's easy to make a whole evening of it.
Friday night before Halloween is genius timing. Kids are wound up anyway and this gives them somewhere to put all that energy.
Going with my sister and her twins this year. Good excuse to finally go back to Peddler's Village, haven't been there in ages.
Took my grandson last year. He talked about the pirate car for two months after. Worth every minute of the drive.
A pirate car talked about for two months is the highest possible review a Trunk-or-Treat entry can receive, we love hearing that!
BobFromNewBritainTwo months is impressive. That pirate car must have been something else. Glad he had a good time.
The light jacket tip at the end is real. It gets cold fast once the sun drops even when the day feels mild. Learned that the hard way last fall.
This is exactly the kind of thing Peddler's Village does well. Low key, free, nice setting. Love it.
Kind of wish it went until 9. My kids do not get out of soccer until 5:30 so we will be rushing to make it.
We did this a couple years back and the candy haul was actually really good. Kids walked away with full bags.
Nice that they keep the costumes and decorations family friendly. Nothing worse than taking little kids somewhere and seeing stuff that scares them half to death.
The light jacket tip is real. It cools down fast once the sun drops this time of year.
I appreciate the only store bought wrapped candy rule. Some trunk or treats I have been to did not enforce that and it made parents nervous.
That rule is one of the things that makes this a genuinely stress-free outing, and it's good to hear it's actually enforced, peace of mind is part of the fun.
We drove past this last year and the decorations on the cars were seriously impressive. Wish we had stopped. Going this time.
Fifteen minutes from downtown Doylestown is generous lol. More like ten if you hit 202 right.
Does anyone know if the shops inside the village are also handing out candy or just the trunk lane? The article says participating shops but curious which ones.
The voting for best trunk is actually really fun. Last year we spent like 20 minutes debating which one to pick.
My daughter is dressing as a little witch this year. She is going to want to walk every single brick path they have. We will be there all three hours probably.
Honestly kind of prefer this over the neighborhood trick or treating. Feels safer and easier to keep track of the kids.
My little guy is going as a firefighter this year and I cannot wait. This is our first time going to this one.
Dinner at the Cock n Bull after trick or treating is a solid plan every year for us.
Love that they only allow store bought wrapped candy. Some events skip that rule and it makes me nervous.
15 to 25 cars is not a ton but the decorated ones are usually really impressive. People go all out.
The brick walkways are a little tricky with a stroller just a heads up for anyone with toddlers. Still totally doable and worth it.
Anyone know how crowded it gets around 6? Trying to decide if we should go right at 5 or wait a bit.
Took my grandson last year and he still talks about it. Grandparent approved for sure.
Good to know it starts at 5 when its still light out. My daughter gets scared pretty easily so this is perfect for us.
We decorated our trunk last year and it was so fun. Thinking about doing it again this year with a Beetlejuice theme.
Free is the magic word. Taking all three of mine Friday night for sure.
I wish they had these trunk or treats closer to New Hope. Peddler's Village is worth the drive though, we went two years ago and the kids had a blast.
The voting for best trunk is a fun touch. Those competitive families are going to go all out and that just means more fun for everyone watching.
Does anyone know if parking gets crazy? We usually go to the Village for the apple festival and it can get pretty packed.
Peddler's Village really does these events right. The brick walkways alone make it feel special for trick or treating.
Those brick walkways really do add something, there's a reason trick-or-treating there feels a little more storybook than a standard suburban street.
Went two years ago and the decorations on some of those cars were absolutely wild. One family did a full haunted pirate ship out of their minivan. Incredible.
Lauren G.A haunted pirate ship out of a minivan is peak Halloween effort. Someone really committed to that one.
The no open flames rule is smart. You would be surprised how many decorated trunks have candles burning near kids in costumes. Good thinking.
Steve MalloryYeah synthetic costumes and open flames are a bad combination. Glad they have that rule spelled out clearly.
This is exactly what I was looking for. My grandkids are 3 and 5 and a full neighborhood Halloween is a little much for them. Peddler's Village at 5pm is perfect.
That's exactly the sweet spot this event was made for, 5 p.m., still light out, and a walkable village setting is just right for the under-6 crowd.
I wish they had done stuff like this when my kids were small. They are 22 and 24 now and I am still a little jealous.
Trish H.Ha, I feel this. My youngest is 19 and I keep going to these things anyway and just pretending I have a reason to be there.
15 minutes from Doylestown and free admission. No reason not to go honestly.
mike_from_doylestownExactly. Free parking too if I remember right. Hard to beat for a Friday night with the kids.
Free AND candy AND shops? That is a solid Friday night for a family with little ones. Already putting it in the calendar.
Hard to beat free admission, candy, and a built-in dinner option right on the grounds, enjoy it!
We took the kids here last year and it was so well organized. Way better than walking around in the dark on actual Halloween night.
Janet R.The organized part is really the key. There is nothing worse than trying to wrangle little kids through a dark neighborhood with cars going by. This sounds way more manageable.
