One of Doylestown's most beloved holiday traditions is almost here, and it pays to plan ahead.

Fonthill Castle, Henry Mercer's one-of-a-kind concrete home at 525 E. Court St., dresses up for the season with holiday tours starting Saturday, Nov. 14.

The castle is closed Nov. 9 through 13 while the decorating happens.

There are three ways to see it.

Daily guided tours run Nov. 14 through Dec. 22, at $20 for adults, $17 for seniors, $15 for students and $10 for youth.

For something more magical, candlelit evening tours begin Nov. 18, with dates Nov. 18 through 21, Nov. 25 and Nov. 27 and 28, plus more in December.

Those are $35 for adults and $10 for youth.

Seeing Mercer's tiled rooms by candlelight is something special.

The Holiday Lights Meander starts the weekend after Thanksgiving, on Nov. 27 and 28, and continues on December weekends, at $20 for adults.

Here's the important part: tickets must be bought in advance, and they're non-refundable.

Evening dates tend to be the first to go, so if you have a night in mind, especially Thanksgiving weekend, book soon.

It makes a wonderful outing with visiting family.

Did the candlelit tour last year and it was absolutely worth it. Book early because those tickets disappear fast.

The Mercer tiles are stunning on a normal day. I cannot even imagine them lit only by candles. Need to do this.

Mercer's tiled rooms by candlelight are genuinely something special, as we note in the piece, it's an experience that's hard to put into words until you've seen it yourself.

Went on a guided daytime tour years ago and loved it. Keep meaning to do the candlelight one. Maybe this is the year.

I always forget this closes for a week while they decorate. Good to know it starts back up Nov 14.

Non-refundable tickets are always a little nerve wracking but that is pretty standard for these kinds of events now.

GregNorrisYeah it's pretty much everywhere now. I just screenshot my confirmation email and put a reminder on my calendar so I don't forget about it entirely.

Does anyone know if strollers are allowed on the evening tours? I have a toddler and want to plan ahead.

Bringing my in-laws the week after Thanksgiving. This is exactly the kind of thing they love. Already bought tickets.

The Holiday Lights Meander sounds fun but I wish the adult price was a little lower for what it is.

525 E Court St for anyone who needs directions. Parking can be a little tricky on weekends so give yourself extra time.

Love Fonthill any time of year but decorated for the holidays it is just magical. Henry Mercer was one of a kind.

Well said, Mercer's vision was singular, and the holiday décor somehow feels right at home amid all those extraordinary tiles and concrete archways.

Good reminder about buying in advance. My wife and I tried to get tickets last minute one year and everything was sold out.

Took my mom here for her birthday a few years back and she still talks about it. Perfect holiday outing.

35 dollars for the evening tour is a little steep but honestly worth every penny. The tiles by candlelight are unreal.

Went to the candlelight tour last year and it was absolutely gorgeous. Book early, those tickets go so fast.

Thank you for sharing that firsthand, and consider this your friendly nudge to anyone still on the fence: evening dates are truly the first to go.
